BirchSeek creates articles in the Shopify blog you choose, through the GraphQL Admin API, with isPublished set to false. They sit in Content → Blog posts as hidden drafts until you publish them.

What BirchSeek does

  • Creates articles with isPublished false - hidden from the storefront, editable in Shopify admin
  • Writes title, handle, HTML body, excerpt, tags and author, and puts your SEO title and description in the global.title_tag and global.description_tag metafields
  • Stamps every article it creates with a birchseek.article_id metafield, and refuses to overwrite a post that metafield says is not ours
  • Mints its own 24-hour access token from your app's client credentials and re-mints it when it expires - there is nothing to rotate by hand
  • Omits isPublished on an update, so a refresh run can never unpublish an article you already made live

Setup

  1. Create an app in the Shopify Dev Dashboard

    Shopify stopped letting merchants create custom apps in the admin on 1 January 2026, so new stores take the Dev Dashboard route. In Shopify admin, open Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps → Build apps in Dev Dashboard, create an app, and in its Access section request the write_content and read_content scopes. Release the version, then install the app on your store. The app and the store must belong to the same Shopify organization.

  2. Copy the credentials

    Open the app in the Dev Dashboard and go to Settings: copy the Client ID and the Client secret. If your store still has a custom app created in the admin before 2026, you can paste its Admin API access token (it starts with shpat_) instead and skip the client credentials entirely.

  3. Pick the blog and check access

    Enter your myshopify.com domain and the credentials, then choose which blog to write into. BirchSeek queries the shop and its blogs, resolves your storefront's primary domain for building article URLs, and reports what the token can do. The check does not create an article.

Shopify's Admin API has no canonical field on an article - the theme emits its own - so BirchSeek treats your storefront as the article's canonical home and hands that URL to the syndication connectors.
